LITTLE ROCK – The Trojan soccer team earned split results in its first weekend of Sun Belt play, and the team will now split its time between the home and the road for it second weekend of Sun Belt play.
Â
The Trojans will head back to Louisiana for Friday afternoon's game against ULM, and the team will then return home for a Sunday afternoon contest with South Alabama. The game against the Warhawks will kick off at 4 p.m., and Sunday's game against the Jaguars will be held at 1 p.m.
Â
Sunday's game at the Coleman Sports & Recreation Complex will be Little Rock Rangers Day, as the local professional soccer team will provide entertainment for the fans.
Â
Little Rock played its usual brand of excellent defense last weekend, shutting out Louisiana for a 1-0 victory on Sunday and holding Texas State scoreless in regulation but eventually falling 1-0 on a 95th-minute goal by the Bobcats. Goalkeeper
Sara Small made seven saves on Sunday and two more on Friday night to move up to 11th place all-time in Trojan history in total saves. She also dropped her season goals against average to 0.75, good for fourth in the Sun Belt.
Â
Arola Aparicio scored Little Rock's only goal of the weekend, poking a ball past Louisiana keeper Cosette Morche in the 12th minute of Sunday's game after a long pass into the box by
Sairra Tucker. Aparicio's goal was her first of the season and her first career game-winner.
The Trojans are now tied for fourth in the Sun Belt standings with three points. Coastal Carolina and Texas State are tied for first with six points each, and Troy is in third with four points. South Alabama, ULM and the Trojans all have three points to tie for fourth place.
Â
Little Rock's first opponent this weekend, ULM, is 4-4-1 on the season and 1-0-0 in Sun Belt play after a 2-1 home victory against Georgia Southern on Sunday. The Warhawks' four wins this year have come against Mississippi Valley State, Nicholls State, McNeese State and Georgia Southern. Goalie Brooke-Lynn Scroggins is third in the conference with 49 saves. The Trojans have beaten the Warhawks for three straight years.
Â
South Alabama has a powerful pedigree as the three-time defending Sun Belt Tournament Champions. Little Rock has not defeated South Alabama since 2010. The Jaguars have already this season accomplished what may be the most impressive feat of any Sun Belt team in any sport this year: South Alabama defeated then-No. 1 Florida State by a 1-0 score in Mobile earlier this month. The Jaguars are receiving votes but are unranked in the NSCAA National Coaches Poll.
