LITTLE ROCK – The Trojans look to remain unbeaten at the Coleman Sports Complex beginning with Appalachian State on Friday at 7 p.m. for Kick for the Cure. Then on Sunday afternoon, Little Rock hosts the Bobcats of Texas State for the final home stance of the season with kick-off time set for 1 p.m.
Â
Last Time Out:
Little Rock's struggles on offense proved to be costly as they dropped their matchup against Troy 1-0. Little Rock had a lack of opportunities on net in the first half as they didn't record a single shot, but their defense held firm holding the game at 0-0 going into the break. Troy opened up the second half quickly with a 49th minute goal to put Little Rock down 1-0. Little Rock found themselves up a player for the final 30 minutes of the match after a Troy red card, but even with the extra player they could not find the back of the net. Little Rock was then able to return home after the supposed to be played Sunday matchup versus South Alabama was postponed to a later date due to Hurricane Nate.
Â
Trojan Report:
Little Rock enters this weekend with a 6-6-2 overall record and a 1-2-2 in conference. That puts them in ninth place in the conference and for now, on the outside looking in for a postseason birth. With the loss on Friday, the Trojans continue their road woes going 0-6-0 in enemy territory. They look to keep their home unbeaten streak alive as they close out their final game at Coleman.
Â
Trojan Leaders:
Even with the struggle on attack this past weekend, Little Rock still leads the conference in goals with 23. They are third in the conference in saves led behind goalkeeper
Megan Swanson who has 52 on the season and putting her at third statistical standings.
Â
Scouting Appalachian State:
The Mountaineers sit last in the conference with a 1-4-1 Sun Belt record and just 2-9-3 overall. The biggest factor amongst their struggles is producing goals. Out of their 14 games played, they were able to score two or more goals in only two of those contests and coincidentally those being their only two victories. App State does not have a lack of physicality though recording the most fouls in the conference (138) and from those producing the most yellow cards with ten.
Â
Scouting Texas State:
Texas State is coming off a four game win streak tallying a shutout in each of the competitions. They sit tied in points at the top of the conference with 15, claiming a 7-4-1 record overall and 5-1-0 in the Sun Belt. In their six games of conference play, the Bobcats have outscored opponents 12-2 with their success being lead behind the dynamic attack of
Kaylee Davis scoring four goals and assisting one and
Rachael Grout scoring three and assisting two. Texas State boasts being top of the statistics in nearly every category including goals allowed and goals against per game.
Â
Series History:
Both matchups this weekend have young histories as Appalachian State enters only its fourth year in the Sun Belt Conference and Texas State entering its fifth. The Mountaineers and Trojans have faced off four times in the three years they have played each other. App State claimed the victory in the first meeting 0-3 in 2014, but since then it has been hard to separate the two. In 2015 they would draw 1-1 and last year's matchup, the Trojans would even the series up with 3-2 victory in double overtime. The two would then face off in the conference tournament last season with App State squeaking out the win 1-2. Texas State has had Little Rock's number in the short history between the two. The Trojans have yet to beat the Bobcats going 0-4 against them in the last four years.
