Little Rock Set to Open Season with UCA and Kentucky

LITTLE ROCK- The Trojans will open their 2018 season on Aug. 17 at 7 p.m. in Conway, Ark. to take on in-state rival Central Arkansas. Little Rock was victorious when they took on the Bears last season as they picked up a 2-1 victory in overtime.
 
Picked to finish fourth in the Sun Belt Conference in 2018, the Trojans will use their experience to their advantage in the new season. The team returns 16 players from last season as well as nine talented newcomers.
 
Seniors Arola Aparicio Gili, Leisa Seifert and junior Doro Greulich were named to the Preseason All-Sun Belt team. Aparicio Gili and Greulich will lead the Trojan attack while Seifert hopes to anchor the defensive back line yet again.
 
The team contains eight seniors, five juniors, four sophomores and eight freshmen. A total of 10 players come from overseas while 15 are from the United States.
 
Little Rock currently owns the all-time series with UCA with a 7-2 lifetime record. The Bears finished last season with a 11-10 overall record with a 7-4 record in the Southland Conference. The Trojans will then come home to play Kentucky on Sunday, Aug. 19 at 1 p.m. The SEC opponent held an 8-12 record last season and finished 2017 ranked No. 121 in the RPI standings.
 
The first 100 students to arrive at the Coleman Sports and Recreation Complex on Sunday will receive a free meal to a food truck provided by the Maroon Mob. Also, Kona Ice will be returning for select home matches this season, including the match this Sunday. The Pep Band will also be present at the event.
 
KICKOFF
  • The Trojans return 16 players from last year's team and add nine newcomers.
  • Little Rock picked up a Sun Belt Tournament victory for the second consecutive season before falling in the semifinal match.
  • The Trojans were picked to finish fourth in the Sun Belt when the league released its preseason poll last week.
  • This weekend, Little Rock will play Kentucky for the first time in program history.
