NEW ORLEANS - Little Rock's
Shanieke Watson has been named the Sun Belt Conference Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week, announced today by the league office. It is the fourth conference weekly honor for Watson and her first of 2018.
Watson captured the individual title at the UCA Cross Country Challenge last Saturday in Conway, posting a time of 18:28.94 in the 5K race, besting her closest competitor by 37 seconds. Watson's effort helped lead Little Rock to a second-place finish among the 11-team field.
Through two races of the 2018 season, Watson has finished in the top-five in both, placing fifth at the Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic on September 1st with a time of 18:00.90. In her Little Rock career, the Manchester, Jamaica native now has two wins with five top-10 finishes.
Watson and the rest of the Trojans return to action on Saturday, September 22, heading north to Fayetteville for the 30th Annual Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival.
