Little Rock will be one of eight teams competing in the event, joined by the host Red Wolves, Memphis, Philander Smith, Alabama A&M, Mississippi Valley State, Harding and Christian Brothers. Field events get underway at 1 p.m. Friday from First National Bank Arena with running events starting at 3 p.m.
"We are excited to go up against one of the stronger Sun Belt programs in Arkansas State Friday," said head coach
J.P. Behnke. "The fact that they are also an in-state rival has our athletes a little extra motivated for this one."
The meet in Jonesboro is the third of four for the Trojans leading up to the Sun Belt Conference Championship in February and will be the second of three meets in consecutive weeks for Little Rock.
The Trojans are coming off a strong showing last week in Birmingham, registering 16 individual top-10 performances at the Samford Invitational. Little Rock also saw a pair of event champions with Keshawn Andrews winning the men's 60 meter dash and
Shanieke Watson claiming the women's 800 meter title.
It was a productive continuation to the indoor season which began on December 1 in Nashville, Tennessee at the Vanderbilt Invitational, an event in which 19 Trojans placed among their respective top-10s. Two Trojans (Andrews, Charles Ozeke) are currently ranked among the top-100 nationally in their respective events with seven Little Rock athletes sitting among the top-five finishers in the Sun Belt Conference.
