Wakeford-Wesmann's Career Day Paces Little Rock

LITTLE ROCK – Senior Thea Wakeford-Wesmann posted her best day as a Trojan Monday, shooting back-to-back 1-over 73s – setting a new career-low – pacing Little Rock on day one of the Lady Red Wolves Classic at Sage Meadows Golf Club. The Trojans are tied for seventh in the team standings with a 27-over 603 after 36 holes.
 
Wakeford-Wesmann posted her new 18 hole low in round one with the 1-over 73, besting her previous personal-best of 74 set earlier this year. She then matched it in the afternoon round, setting a new 36-hole personal-best of 2-over 146, and is currently sits tied for ninth.
 
The senior holds a five shot edge on sophomore Malena Austerslaatt, sitting second on the Little Rock scorecard with a 7-over 151 (75-76), tied for 23rd. Austerslaatt is one shot better than fellow sophomore Sydney Scraba, who is tied for 27th with an 8-over 152 (77-75) through 36 holes.
 
Sophomore Tilde Bocker is tied for 33rd with a 10-over 154 (79-75) with sophomore Kellie Gachaga rounding out the Trojan scorecard with a 19-over 163 (80-83).
 
Little Rock opened the day with a 16-over 304, paced by the 73 from Wakeford-Wesmann and the 75 from Austerslaatt. The Trojans then shaved five shots off its round one total with an 11-over 299 in the afternoon round, led by Wakeford-Wesmann's second 73 and the 75 from Scraba.
 
The Trojans sit tied with Belmont after 36 holes as the duo holds a commanding lead on ninth-place Washington University-St. Louis (54-over 630). The Trojans and Bruins are just five shots out of fourth, trailing sixth-place Samford (23-over 599) by four and fourth-place Austin Peay and UT Arlington (22-over 598) by five.
 
Host Arkansas State holds the team lead at 2-over 578, holding a 12 shot edge on second-place Southern Illinois (14-over 590). Lipscomb (16-over 592) is third, six shots better than both the Governors and Mavericks in the tie for fourth.
 
Tuesday's final round begins with an 8 a.m. shotgun start in Jonesboro as the Trojans will play with Belmont and Washington U., teeing off from holes 10-13.
