HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE, Ark. – The first of three rounds at the
Diamante Intercollegiate concluded Sunday afternoon at Diamante Country Club.
Little Rock opened with a
1-under team score through 18 holes, tying
Arkansas State for sixth place—just one shot behind
Central Arkansas, which sits in fifth.
Boston College leads the field at 10-under, followed by
Memphis in second at 7-under.
Ball State and
Lipscomb are tied for third at 6-under.
"We have some ground to make up Monday, but we can move up the board if everyone plays a little better," said Little Rock head coach
Jenna Birch. "Everybody stayed after the round today to work on something they wanted to improve."
Eleonore Aernouts led the Trojans with a 2-under 70 to sit in eighth place.
Cloe Poizac carded a 1-under 71 and is tied for 13th, while
Fehild Graesel shot even par to stand in 24th.
Lara Martin finished 2-over and is tied for 51st.
"Eleonore continues to play well, and Cloe had a nice round," Birch said.
Aernouts, the reigning
OVC Female Golfer of the Week, played in a group that included
Memphis' Claire Swathwood, the Round 1 co-leader at 6-under, and
Seattle's Tsara Ralamboarison, who is tied with Aernouts. All three players impressed with consistent ball striking and smart course management throughout the round.
"I was a little disappointed with my pitching, but I still managed to finish 2-under," Aernouts said. "The greens were really wet, so I came up short on my first shot almost every time. But now I have a better feel for the course and hope to make a few more putts tomorrow."
Play resumes Monday morning with the first group teeing off at
8:30 a.m.
