LITTLE ROCK - The Little Rock soccer team (5-5-6, 2-1-4 Sun Belt) has three conference matches left on the slate, and two of those games are to be played this upcoming weekend. The Trojans travel to the state of Alabama, visiting Troy on Thursday with a 7:00 p.m. kickoff before facing South Alabama on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. This week will prove crucial to Little Rock, as both of its opponents sit at the top of the conference standings.
Trojan Report
Little Rock wrapped up their final home matches of the season last weekend with a 4-0 win against ULM and a 2-1 comeback victory over Appalachian State. Along with finishing the weekend undefeated, the two wins also marked an undefeated home conference slate for the Trojans. Both games added three points toward Sun Belt play, elevating the Trojans to a three-way tie for fifth place tie within the conference standings. Trojan Leaders
Adding two more goals to her tally, one of which was a game-winner for Little Rock, Julia Edholm has now earned five goals to lead the Trojans in her freshman campaign. Junior midfielder Morgan Smocovich collected her first goal of the season this weekend, still commanding the team in assists as well as shots on goal. Defensively, Samantha Rolka and Natalee Geren have been pillars for the team, starting in all 16 games and accumulating the most minutes out of all the back-end players. Meanwhile, keeper Julia Curatolo is still tied for the top save percentage in the league during conference play (.923)
Scouting Troy
The Troy Trojans (9-2-4) have four more points in conference play compared to Little Rock, and for one reason - while Little Rock is 2-1-4, Troy (4-1-2 Sun Belt) was able to grab two more wins rather than ties. This difference of two games has placed Troy second in the Sun Belt standings, despite beating current leaders South Alabama 2-0. Little Rock will need to grab a win here to start the weekend's momentum against a highly offensive team that leads the conference in goals and assists.
Scouting South Alabama
The Jaguars (11-3-2, 6-1-1 Sun Belt) are on a roll this season, having lost only one of its last nine games. In conference play, South Alabama tied Louisiana, just like Little Rock, yet fell to Troy. The Jaguars may be a bit more balanced across the field than Troy, leading the league in shots as well as shutouts, and allowing less goals. Sitting at the top of the standings, South Alabama has only two games left, against the Trojans and Appalachian State.
