Little Rock Soccer to Host Coastal Carolina on Friday

LITTLE ROCK - The Little Rock soccer team (3-5-5, 0-1-3 Sun Belt) will play just one conference match this weekend, taking the field at the Coleman Sports Complex on Friday, Oct. 27 at 7:30 pm. against the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (4-5-1, 2-1-0 Sun Belt). Currently, the Trojans have three points toward Sun Belt play, tied for seventh out of 11 teams.

Trojan Report

Little Rock has matched the program record for most ties in a single season (5, also reached in 2015), as the Trojans continue to rack up draws in conference play. Last weekend, Little Rock played a total of 220 minutes, going to double overtime against both Texas State and Louisiana. While the Texas State game was scoreless on both sides, the Trojans were able to net their first goal of Sun Belt play against Louisiana. Heading into their eighth home match of the year, Little Rock looks to continue to protect their house, as the Trojans have only allowed one home loss early in the season. For more details on last week's home games, click HERE for the Texas State recap and click HERE for the Louisiana recap

Trojan Leaders

The stats for Little Rock show a few familiar faces that stand out: freshman Julia Edholm continues to lead with three goals scored, followed by classmate Mari Young with two. Fanney Einarsdottir owns the sole goal in league play, assisted by Edholm. Morgan Smocovich has assisted with just under half of the Trojan goals this season, tied for third for most in the Sun Belt, and also has completed the most shots for Little Rock along with Einarsdottir. In goal, Julia Curatolo now has accumulated 42 saves throughout the year, with a nearly perfect save percentage in conference play (.900), the second-best in the league.

Scouting Coastal Carolina

The Chanticleers are sitting at fourth in the conference with six points going into Friday's matchup after posting two straight wins against Troy (2-1) and Appalachian State (1-0), but being shut out by Georgia Southern (1-0) to open their conference slate. Coastal Carolina's Mackenzie Gibbs stands out in league play with an average of three shots per game, also leading her team in shot attempts and assists this entire season. Last year the Chanticleers made up one of the only two Sun Belt teams to defeat Little Rock, finishing third in the regular season, so this weekend the Trojans look to retaliate by taking down Coastal Carolina for the first time in program history.
