Swim and Dive to Head to Kansas for Midseason Meet

LITTLE ROCK - The Little Rock swimming and diving team will compete in a three-day mid-season meet this weekend at the Kansas Classic invitational, with prelims and finals sessions on each day. Fans can follow along with the action live by downloading the MeetMobile app as well as following the team on social media.

Several other Division I teams will be in attendance at the seven-team invite, including Iowa State, the University of Miami, North Texas and Nebraska-Omaha as well as conference foes Northern Iowa and hosts Kansas.

"This weekend is a swimming version of final exams for the fall semester," added head coach Amy Burgess. "With a little bit of rest and going against some top teams from the Big 12, ACC, Summit League, Conference USA, and our own MVC there is going to be some fast swimming in Topeka, Kansas this weekend."

Last year, Little Rock finished sixth in the invitational, less than 20 points behind Nebraska-Omaha, while Missouri Valley Conference rivals Northern Iowa placed fourth. Coincidentally, in the MVC swimming and diving preseason poll, Northern Iowa is also slated to finish fourth and Little Rock sixth out of the conference's eight teams, meaning that the closer the Trojans can get to their foes this weekend, the better.

Helped by a larger roster than in years past, Little Rock has been on the up-and-up both at practice and at meets throughout the fall. The continued growth of the squad will certainly be reflected at the midseason meet this weekend, especially as the team has had the last two and a half weeks off of competition to focus on details after a tough October schedule.

"Competing in Topeka for the past three years has helped raise the bar for our program," said Burgess. "We traditionally see some very good midseason times posted, and get a good assessment of where we are and where we need to improve for the final months of the season. This team has been stepping up to every challenge thrown at them the past few weeks and we are looking forward to some exciting performances this weekend."
