The Trojans will compete in a four-day championship meet against seven other Missouri Valley Conference foes: Evansville, Illinois State, Indiana State, Missouri State, Northern Iowa, Southern Illinois, and Valparaiso. This year, Little Rock has been picked to finish sixth at the conference meet, in front of both Evansville and Valparaiso, which reflects the same results as last season, when the Trojans bested Evansville by just four and a half points.
Five Trojans have posted top-16 seeds in various events going into this weekend, led by freshman Fer Moussier's two top-eight times: third in the 200 fly and seventh in the 100 fly. She is joined by junior captain Palmer Ristroph, who has top-16 times in both breaststroke events, as well as junior diver Sierra Thain who ranks within the top-16 on both the 1 meter and 3 meter board. Sophomore Carolyn Godwin and freshman Asmalia Redzuan round out the top Trojans with one ranking each, in the 100 free and 200 free, respectively.
With nearly half of the Trojan roster being newcomers, this championship meet will be a strong indicator of where Little Rock's future will lie, especially as several will experience their first full taper of their collegiate careers.Â
"I am not sure I have had a team more ready to turn heads this week," said head coach Amy Burgess. "These young ladies have put their heart and soul into this season and they are about to introduce the new era of Little Rock Swimming. With the upper classmen's experience and the young team members' excitement to experience their first MVC Championship, we have a strong, determined group of student athletes ready to perform."
