DAY THREE PRELIMINARY HEATS
500 Freestyle
Three Trojans made it back in the C final:
Lea Zengerling along with
Emma Bleasdell and
Asmalia Redzuan. Zengerling clocked in at 5:06.10 in prelims, less than a second away from her season best, and took seventh in the heat at night. Bleasdell shaved off two seconds for a lifetime-best 5:06.03 after taking it out stronger this evening, placing fourth in the heat in the outside lane.
On the other side of the pool from Bleasdell, Redzuan was the definition of 'outside smoke' as the freshman dropped four seconds from her morning swim down to a 5:04.42. She touched the wall second in her heat for 18th overall despite barely qualifying for finals. Her time slides into fifth in Little Rock program history.
200 IM
Carolyn Godwin highlighted the evening with a scoring performance in the 200 IM. The sophomore rounded out the B final in 2:08.05 with a strong back half, just a couple tenths behind her lifetime-best 2:07.75 from the morning to earn 16th place.
Freshman
Annya Grom also appeared in the event's C final, consistent from morning to night with her times of 2:08.05 (prelims) and 2:08.08 (finals). Grom took third in her heat for 19th overall, dropping a massive five seconds from her seed time.
50 Freestyle
The sole sprinter representing the Trojans in finals was
Regan Lawrence. After finishing as the top seed in C finals in prelims, the junior took second in her heat with a 24.05, nearly a tenth faster than earlier in the day.
1 Meter Diving
The pair of junior divers,
Sierra Thain and
Coy Jones, barely missed advancing to finals on the one meter board. Thain accumulated 187.25 points to take 17th, less than 10 points away from B finals. Meanwhile, Jones placed 20th out of the 27 divers competing with a score of 180.75.
200 Freestyle Relay
The Trojans put together the third-fastest sprint team in program history this evening for a fourth, their highest relay finish of the weekend thus far. The squad of Grom, Lawrence, Godwin, and Redzuan all split 23's to combine for a 1:34.34. Again, this is another example of progress in the making for Little Rock's future, as every single member of the relay will return next year.
Up Next
Tomorrow, for day three, Little Rock will take to the 3 meter board as well as race the 100 butterfly, 400 IM, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke, and 400 medley relay. Prelims begin at 11 a.m. CT, and fans can
