LITTLE ROCK - Nine members of the Little Rock swimming and diving team were named to the 2020 Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Scholar-Athlete Team in recognition of their efforts both in the pool and in the classroom, as announced by the league this Thursday. Trojans honored include seniors
Jessie Baldwin,
Amanda Dreyer and
Charis Won, juniors
Avery McLean,
Palmer Ristroph and
Sierra Thain, and the entire sophomore class of
Carolyn Godwin,
Katelyn White and
Lea Zengerling.
Scholar-Athlete honors require athletes to have completed at least one year and maintain either a 3.3 grade-point average and obtain all-conference honors, achieve a 3.5 grade-point average and finish top-16 in an individual event at the conference championships, or maintain a 3.8 grade-point average and participate in the MVC championship (including non-scorers).
The Missouri Valley Conference had 81 student-athletes on the scholar-athlete team this season for swimming and diving. In the 2019-20 season, 10 of these scholar-athletes had a perfect 4.00 GPA, with McLean and Zengerling representing Little Rock in that category with unblemished records.
Ristroph, Godwin, and White are not far off with grade-point-averages of 3.94, 3.93, and 3.91, respectively. The trio of seniors ended their careers with impressive marks of 3.87 for Won, 3.85 for Baldwin, and 3.77 for Dreyer. Thain rounds out the group, earning the honor with her 3.50 GPA along with her top-16 finish on the 3 meter board at conference.
