Coach's Preview
The Trojans are 1-0 in Sun Belt conference play for the first time since 2008 after defeating Texas State at home last Friday night in a 2-0 shutout. Seniors Morgan Smocovich and Doro Greulich both notched goals in the victory to lead the team in points, while sophomore Mari Young is also aiding the attack with a team-best three shots on goal so far this season. In the back, the defensive line of Bergros Asgeirsdottir, Julia Edholm and Allison Morrison have played every minute of each game, joined only by playing the full time by goalkeeper Saskia Wagner. The freshman between the posts currently has the best save percentage in the Sun Belt at .923.
"We're in a really good place right now coming off a fantastic performance against Texas State," said head coach Mark Foster. "The girls played well so they're excited, plus we've got another few players back and ready to go so training's been really competitive. Winning and having people back has uplifted everyone. We feel blessed to be playing and we're in a really good spot."
A Glance at the Matchup
Arkansas State has already faced the three other teams in the West Division of the Sun Belt. The Red Wolves are currently also unbeaten in Sun Belt play, taking down ULM 6-1 and shutting out both Louisiana and Texas State. The Trojan defense, one of the best in entire conference, will need to be ready to fight against a team that has put up the most average shots per game in the Sun Belt so far this year.
"We have two tough games coming up this weekend but that's what college soccer is all about," said Coach Foster. "Arkansas State is a great team but we're up for the challenge. There isn't an easy game in the Sun Belt so we have to be our best at every conference game."
