LITTLE ROCK - The Little Rock swimming team is ready to compete at the Kansas Classic this weekend, a three-day mid-season invitational with both prelims and finals sessions. Fans can follow along with the action live by downloading the MeetMobile app as well as following the team on social media.
"We are really looking forward to competing again in Topeka," said head coach
Amy Burgess. "This meet is like our Fall finals exams. It is a great opportunity to run through the championship meet format and race swim strong conference and non-conference competition. The team has been looking so strong and is ready to race."
Last year, Little Rock's season was moved to a shortened January through April format, meaning that there was no mid-season opportunity for the Trojans. Two years ago, the last time Little Rock raced at the Kansas Classic, they finished seventh overall and came home with a new school record.
This year, the Trojans will be racing against five other teams: Iowa State, North Texas, hosts Kansas, and conference opponents Northern Iowa and Indiana State. Little Rock has not seen the pair of Missouri Valley Conference opponents since the 2021 MVC Championships in April and will be excited to race against the MVC teams
picked third in the conference (Indiana State) and fifth (Northern Iowa), one seed ahead of the Trojans.
Little Rock has constantly been challenged this fall with a tough opening schedule, so expect this year's talented batch of swimmers to perform well, especially now that they are suited up and rested for the mid-season meet. It will be a great gauge for the team as they move into the second half of the season.
