Joel Pearson Added to Little Rock Track and Field and Cross Country Coaching Staff

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Little Rock Director of Track and Field/Cross Country J.P. Behnke announced Wednesday the addition of Joel Pearson to the coaching staff to guide the Trojan distance runners.

"I am very excited to announce the addition of Coach Pearson to the Little Rock Trojan family," Behnke said. "He will oversee our cross country program and work with the distance athletes on the track. Joel's passion for his athletes' well-being and knowledge of the sport were obvious from our first conversation together."

Pearson heads to Little Rock after 18 months at Pratt Community College where he led both the cross country and track and field teams. While at Pratt he assisted in the development of All-American Zach McPhee.

Overall in his career he has coached seven national champions, 59 All-Americans and 77 national qualifiers on the collegiate level before arriving in Little Rock.

In addition to Pratt Community College, Pearson's collegiate coaching stops include Kennesaw State University, North Carolina A&T, Meridian Community College, Cardinal Stritch University and Whatcom Community College. He also served as the Director of Track & Field Operations at the University of Iowa.

Little Rock's new coach has multiple USATF certifications, including Level 3 endurance certification, and Level 2 certification in sprints/hurdles, jumps, and combined events. He is a graduate of Evergreen State College, where he studied history and coaching, and received his Master of Science in Sport Management at Cardinal Stritch University. He is the son former American 50-mile record holder and national champion Jim Pearson.
