LITTLE ROCK - The Little Rock soccer team will kick off its spring campaign tomorrow against Oklahoma State, traveling to Stillwater to face the Cowboys at 1 p.m.
Although the Trojans already participated in its conference schedule as well as the Sun Belt tournament in the fall, spring games are countable toward their regular season record this year due to several NCAA schools deciding to postpone play.
Coach's Preview
"We're excited to finally get to play after two of our spring games were called off," said head coach Mark Foster. "Spring training has been really good. It's been cold and we had to adjust with the snow, but the ladies have had a wonderful attitude like they have all year, embrace every day and get better whether we're playing indoor or outdoor. Delighted with our training, our attitude, and our response to adversity."
"Like in the fall, our mindset is a little different than years past," added Coach Foster in reference to playing during the pandemic. "We want to play every game with everything we have and seize the opportunity against one of the top teams in the country. Looking to get out there, learn, and get better and measure ourselves against the best."
A Glance at the Matchup
While Little Rock waved goodbye to a handful of seniors in the fall, Bergros Asgeirsdottir will return in the spring to lead the young Trojans. The team also added a transfer from Houston to help the back line in defender Emily Munguia.
With the departure of Doro Greulich, freshman Mariella Stephens currently leads the team in goals with three after her breakout performance at the Sun Belt Tournament, while junior Abril Lucio will look to add more to her pair from the fall.
More breakout performances will be welcomed against the ranked Cowboys. The last time the Trojans played Oklahoma State was in 2016, when Little Rock dropped a tight 1-0 match in Stillwater. The two teams have met just seven times since 1996, with the Big 12 foe holding control of the series.
