Battle, Caicedo Claim All-Conference Honors

NEW ORLEANS – Little Rock Women's Basketball had two Trojans honored Thursday as Teal Battle and Mayra Caicedo received all-conference accolades. Receiving the 34th and 35th honors in program history, respectively, Little Rock has had an all-conference honoree in each of the 18 years Joe Foley has guided the program.

Battle received all-conference honors for the second consecutive season as she was named to the second team while Caicedo, in her first year in the league, received third team honors.

Twice matching her career-high 25 points in a game including in Little Rock's quarterfinal win over Georgia State, Battle continually stepped up to the occasion as the season progressed, finishing the year ranked third in the league in free throws made (80), fourth in total points (351) and field goals made (126) while ranking fifth in minutes played per game (34.70).

Caicedo made an immediate impact on the league, leading the conference and the nation in total assists (175) while ranking first in the league and fifth in the nation in assists per game (6.7). Her 17 assists against ULM on Jan. 29 set a new conference record.

The league set forth new standards for selecting the all-conference teams this year due to COVID, limiting statistical criteria for conference games and conference tournament games only while being told to ignore non-conference games. All rankings and numbers listed above were for the complete season as no conference regular season and tournament combined stats were published.

Battle and Caicedo helped guide Little Rock to the semifinals of the conference tournament for the 13th time in 14 years, stepping up after the loss of Krystan Vornes in the first minutes of the tournament due to injury. Vornes entered the tournament ranking second in the league in rebounds and double-doubles while ranking third in rebounds per game, nearly averaging a double-double on the season.
