Cardinal, Jackson Claim Sun Belt Athlete of the Week Honors

NEW ORLEANS – Little Rock claimed a pair of Sun Belt honors Thursday as Spencer Cardinal and Ka'Neisha Jackson have been named the Sun Belt's Men's and Women's Track Athletes of the Week, respectively.

Cardinal was recognized after running the second-best 10K time in the nation last week at Central Arkansas. His time of 31:43.96 is the fastest time of any Little Rock runners since 2017 and leads both the Sun Belt Conference and the NCAA's West performance list.

Jackson claimed the honors after setting a new school record in the 400m hurdles as she won the event at the Richard Martin, Jr. Invitational with a time of 1:01.49. That mark not only leads the Sun Belt but ranks 30th in the nation and 17th on the NCAA's West performance list. She also anchored the 4x400m relay that finished second with a time of 3:51.82.

Both the men's and women's awards are the first weekly awards Little Rock athletes have won in their respective genders since 2018.

The Trojans trade the rolling hills of central Arkansas this week for palm trees and sunshine as Little Rock will compete at the Miami Hurricane Invitational in Coral Gables, Florida.
