NEW ORLEANS, La. – Little Rock senior first baseman
Kobe Barnum has been named the Sun Belt's Player of the Week, announced today by the league office. It is the first weekly honor in Barnum's career and the first for the Trojans in 2021.
Barnum played a key role in helping Little Rock to a road series win over North Alabama. He went 5-for-10 against the Lions with a pair of home runs and seven RBI, including six in the 10-3 victory on Sunday to clinch the series. For the week, he batted .455 with a 1.000 slugging percentage as the Trojans went 3-1, including a midweek win over Central Arkansas.
On the season, Barnum is batting .333 in seven games played with four starts with a .667 slugging percentage and eight RBI. He is tied for the team lead with two home runs, his first two in a Little Rock uniform, as his eight RBI also ranks second on the team.
Barnum is the first Trojan to earn Sun Belt Player of the Week honors since
Kale Emshoff on February 25, 202. He is now the 15th different Trojan to tally weekly hitting honors by the Sun Belt, upping the program total to 20 since joining the league in 1992.
Barnum and the rest of the Trojans will return to Alabama this week for a weekend series against SEC foe Auburn at Plainsman Park. All three games will air on either the SEC Network or SEC Network +, beginning with a 4 p.m. first pitch Friday, March 12.
