Curington Finishes 32nd in West Prelims Long Jump

Freshman makes first NCAA prelims appearance

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Ryan Curington recorded a jump of nearly 24 feet as he finished 32nd at the NCAA West Prelims Wednesday afternoon.

Curington's jump of 23-11.75 (7.31m) came on his third attempt and pushed him past Jelani Pierre of Kansas and Jathan Belaire of Texas by 0.25 inches (0.01m). His performance eclipsing the two Big 12 jumpers came as Curington made his first-ever NCAA West Prelims appearance.

His appearance at the West Prelims marked the first time a Little Rock long jumper qualified for the NCAA postseason since Demond Gulley finished 40th in the long jump in 2015 with a jump of 22-8.5 (6.92m).

Next up at the West Prelims for Little Rock will be Johnathan Jones in the high jump on Friday afternoon.
