LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Little Rock Director of Track & Field/Cross Country and Head Coach
J.P. Behnke unveiled his program's 2022-23 indoor track and field schedule Wednesday with seven regular season meets leading up to the Trojans first-ever appearance at the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championships.
Â
The
2022-23 indoor schedule, Little Rock's first in the OVC, begins on Dec. 9-10 with the first of three trips to Kansas. Little Rock will compete at the Boo Rogers Combined Events meet hosted by Pittsburg State then before returning to Pittsburg, Kansas for the Gorilla Classic on Feb. 10-11.
"This will be one of the most competitive indoor schedules we've had in my five years at Little Rock and our athletes welcome the challenge," said
J.P. Behnke, Director of Track & Field/Cross Country, Head Coach. "Our multi athletes will kick off the season at Pitt State in December while the rest of the team will start the season in Fayetteville Jan 13th. We have a few athletes who are capable of finishing top 16 in the country in their event. Those students will finish the regular season at the Tyson Invite while the rest of the team splits up between Birmingham and Pitt State."
Â
After winter break, Little Rock gets back in action at the Arkansas Invitational on Jan. 14. Not only will that meet pit the Trojans against several other teams, but it will also be the indoor schedule's chance to gain points in the Governor's I-40 Showdown presented by Arkansas Blue Cross Blue Shield with Central Arkansas expected to be in attendance.
Â
The slate continues the following week with another trip to a Southeastern Conference campus as Little Rock heads to Nashville for the Vanderbilt Invitational on Jan. 20-21. The Maroon and Silver open February in Kansas with a two-day meet at the Washburn Open on Feb. 3-4.
Â
On Feb. 10-11, the Trojans will split squads with the Gorilla Classic, the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville and the Bulldog Open in Birmingham, Alabama all scheduled for the same timeframe. Athletes competing at the Bulldog Open will get a chance to preview the competition facility for the OVC Indoor Championships.
Â
The postseason begins on Feb. 22-23 when Little Rock returns to the Birmingham CrossPlex for the OVC Indoor Championships. The NCAA Indoor Championships are slated for March 10-11, 2023 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
