LITTLE ROCK - The Trojans are ready to dive into a big week, with the three-day 2022 Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Swimming and Diving Championships set to begin on Wednesday, February 16 and conclude on Saturday, February 19 in Iowa City at the University of Iowa.
MVC Championship Central
"This team is ready to put on a show and we are ready to watch," said head coach
Amy Burgess. "With young talent being lead by a strong group of upperclassmen, we have been feeling the energy grow everyday. This is a very special group of student athletes and all their hard work is about to be put on display!"
Little Rock is poised for a great meet, having posted quick swims at their mid-season meet, the Kansas Classic, as well as showing consistency throughout the regular season.
Returning All-MVC honoree
Annya Grom leads the team, seeded within the top eight in all three of her events (50 free, 100 free, 100 fly). Grom has already lowered her own school record in the 100 free this season down to 50.01 and looks to break the 50-second barrier this week.
Grom is also a member of all three new school records that the Trojans set at the Kansas Classic: the 200 free, 200 medley, and 400 free relays. Joining her on all three relays is freshman standout
Jaelle Carlson, who also boasts a pair of top-8 times in both sprint freestyle events.
The 200 free relay is ranked second going into the championships, as the team of Grom, Carlson,
Carolyn Godwin, and
Cheryl Poulsen put together a new school mark of 1:33.59 this fall. Reigning MVC team champions Missouri State have the top seed by less than three tenths of a second, as the Trojans will seek to upset the Bears.
Other Trojans with top-16 seeds headed into the week include freshmen
Gillian Boggs (400 IM),
Karina Harr (100 breast),
Olivia Henderson (200 back),
Asmalia Redzuan (100 fly),
Caitlin Romprey (100 back), and
Lea Zengerling (500 free), but expect several Little Rock swimmers to step up and move into scoring position throughout the week.
All sessions will be streamed
live on host team UNI's YouTube page, while fans can also look up results by
