BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Little Rock track and field claimed four of the six honors awarded by the Ohio Valley Conference Wednesday as the league announced its Athlete of the Week awards for the second week of the 2022-23 indoor track and field season.
Â
Troy McKnight (Male Track),
Johnathan Jones (Male Field),
Hayden Wilson (Male Freshman) and
Landri Schreier (Female Co-Track) all were recognized by the OVC after the Trojans registered huge marks at the Arkansas Invitational last week.
Â
The four honors in one single week marks the most ever won by Little Rock in a week, doubling the previous record.
Â
McKnight clocked 6.73 in the 60m dash last week, running the fastest time in the OVC so far this year and the fourth-fastest time in school history. His time, which ranks 42
nd in the nation, is the fastest 60m time recorded by an OVC sprinter since 2015 and came just an hour after he ran 6.74 in the prelims. McKnight's mark of 6.73 is the fastest in the OVC this season by 0.12 seconds and improved upon his previous career-best time by the same amount.
Â
Jones cleared 6-11 (2.11m) to beat the reigning indoor national champion and a six-time All-American in the high jump last week. Jones' season-opening mark edged Oklahoma's Vernon Turner, a three-time Big 12 High Jump Champion and the 2022 NCAA Indoor Champion in the high jump. He claimed his sixth career gold medal in the event (between indoor and outdoor seasons) with last week's win. Jones was the Sun Belt Champion in the outdoor high jump last spring and qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Prelims for the second consecutive year.
Â
Wilson registered the second-longest shot put throw in school history last week as he finished ninth at the Arkansas Invitational. A true freshman competing in his first collegiate meet, Wilson's throw of 52-0 (15.85m) ranks third on the OVC performance list this season while no other freshman ranks in the top eight in the league in any of the throwing events. Wilsons's performance placed him ninth with six of the eight throwers ahead of him coming from P5 programs (all but one of which was an upperclassman).
Â
Schreier recorded a pair of sprint times that are among the best in the OVC last week. The sophomore sprinter's time of 7.61 in the 60m leads the conference and is the third-fastest time in school history while her 200m time of 25.10 ranks second in the OVC this year and eighth in school history. She is the only student-athlete in the OVC currently ranked in the top five in multiple individual running events. Schreier finished 14
th in both events at the meet.
Â
This marks the first career athlete of the week honor won by all four student-athletes. It also makes five total honors won by the Trojans this season after
Matthew Fox was named the OVC Co-Field Athlete of the Week on Jan. 11.
Â
Little Rock is back in action this weekend as the Trojans head to Nashville for the two-day Vanderbilt Invitational beginning Friday.
