NEW ORLEANS – Led by a quartet of standout performances on the track already this season, Little Rock's men's track and field program was ranked No. 52 in the first rankings release of the 2022-23 indoor season. That marks the highest ranking for the Trojans in program history.
Â
The rankings release marks the first time Little Rock has been ranked in a year and tops the previous best ranking in program history when the Trojans were ranked 59
th during the 2020-21 indoor season.
Â
Little Rock is the highest of four Ohio Valley Conference teams listed in the rankings, ahead of No. 58 Southeast Missouri, No. 142 Tennessee State and No. 146 UT Martin.
Â
Two marks from this past weekend's Vanderbilt Invitational helped push Little Rock into uncharted territory in the rankings with the men's distance medley relay team running 10:00.58, just 2.3 seconds shy of a school record, and
Troy McKnight running 6.71 in the 60m dash.
Â
Little Rock's DMR time currently ranks sixth in the country and fourth among scoring teams. McKnight, whose mark is the fastest of any OVC runner since 2015 and ranks tied for second in school history, currently has the 35
th-fastest time in the nation.
Â
Additionally,
Johnathan Jones' high jump mark of 6-11 (2.11m) from the Arkansas Invitational and
Matthew Fox's school record 5,047 points scored in the heptathlon at the Boo Rogers Combined Events both are in the top 25 nationally.
Â
The rankings are released by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) and are compiled by mathematical formulae based on national descending order lists and data taken from previous seasons.
Â
The Trojans return to the track on Feb. 3-4 at the Washburn Open in Topeka, Kansas.
