BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Little Rock sprinter
Troy McKnight was recognized by the Ohio Valley Conference Wednesday as he was named the league's Track Athlete of the Week for the second consecutive week.
Â
McKnight edged a four-time All-America by the closest possible margin – one-thousandth of a second – to win gold in the 60m dash at the Vanderbilt Invitational last week. His time of 6.71 in the finals matches the second-best time in school history and is the fastest time clocked by an OVC sprinter since 2015. It also makes him only the fourth OVC sprinter since 2011 to run a time under 6.75 in the 60m dash.
Â
The finals win marked McKnight's first career gold medal in an individual race (indoors and outdoors combined) and currently ranks 35
th in the nation. McKnight shared the honor with UT Martin distance runner. Will Cahill
Â
Wednesday's announcement marked the first time Little Rock has had a male indoors athlete of the week winner in back-to-back weeks since De-Von Bean on Jan. 20 and Jan. 27, 1998. It also marks the sixth OVC Athlete of the Week award the Trojans have claimed this season, the most received in a single year in program history.
Â
Little Rock returns to action on Feb. 3-4 when the Trojans head to Topeka, Kansas for the Washburn Open.
