Sali Kourouma Named OVC Co-Player of the Week

Trojan forward claims second OVC weekly honor while leading Little Rock to conference title

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – After leading Little Rock to at least a share of the Ohio Valley Conference regular season championship and an undefeated record at home in league play, Trojan forward Sali Kourouma was named the OVC's Co-Player of the Week on Tuesday.

Kourouma averaged 19.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 2.0 blocks last week as she helped Little Rock set history, becoming the first team to win the OVC regular season title in their first year in the league.

Leading the league in blocks while leading the Trojans in points and steals last week, Kourouma notched her second double-double of the season with 18 points and 12 rebounds in a 58-50 win over Southern Indiana. On Saturday, she scored 21 points, grabbed eight rebounds with two blocks and two steals – the second steal coming with less than 10 seconds left to clinch 46-42 win over Eastern Illinois to seal an undefeated home record in conference play.

More than just her offensive prowess – she scored in double figures for the 12th time in 15 games this season – Kourouma's defense was just as vital for the Trojans. With three defensive rebounds, two blocks and two steals on Saturday, Kourouma helped Little Rock become the first team since the 1974-75 season to hold Eastern Illinois to under 45 points multiple times in the same season.

Kourouma, whose 19.5 points per game was among the best in the league on the week, heads into the final week of the regular season averaging 16.3 points, 7.1 rebounds and 2.2 steals in conference play – the only player in the OVC to be ranked in the top five in all three categories – while helping Little Rock become the first team in league history to win the championship in their first year in the league.

Claiming her second OVC Player of the Week honor, Kourouma shared the weekly award with UT Martin's Sharnecce Currie-Jelks.

Little Rock and Kourouma return to the hardwood Thursday when they can clinch the No. 1 seed and an undisputed regular season title on ESPNU as the Trojans tip-off at SIUE at 4 p.m. CT.
