Cristoni, Trojans complete strong showing at Fighting Irish Classic

NOTRE DAME, Indiana — The Little Rock Men's Golf team held strong Monday in the final round of the Fighting Irish Classic at Warren Golf Club, taking home a Top 5 finish as well as one of the top individual finishes in a field full of top-level programs.

The Trojans (+8) finished fourth in the 15-team field and senior Matteo Cristoni finished second on the individual leaderboard. Little Rock was just one stroke behind third-place Louisville and two behind runner-up Purdue. Tournament host Notre Dame (-5) ran away with the team title. Cristoni (-4) finished just one stroke behind the individual champion.

The senior from Italy fired rounds of 67, 68, and 71 on the Par 70 course, including 12 birdies and 32 pars in 54 holes. His second-place finish is the highest individual finish for a member of the team and the team finish gives them three Top 10's in as many events, and two finishes in the Top 5.

Freddie Turnell (+7) finished 28th overall after a third round 78, Rhett South (+8) had his best round of the event Monday with a 68 to finish 38th overall, Archie Smith (+8) fired an even 70 in the final round to also finish 38th and Lukas Roessler (+9) finished 43rd.

The Trojans will be on home turf next week (Oct. 14-15) when the Trojans host the Everett Buick GMC Classic at Chenal Country Club in Little Rock.
