LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Little Rock heads to UT Martin on Thursday looking to extend its unbeaten conference streak and its two-game win streak against the Skyhawks.
Little Rock (3-3-5, 1-0-3 OVC) played to a 1-1 draw with Southern Indiana this past weekend, while UT Martin (1-6-6, 1-2-1 OVC) fell 2-1 to SEMO. The Trojans are tied for third place in the Ohio Valley Conference standings with Lindenwood, while the Skyhawks sit two spots below in sixth.
The Trojans enter the matchup riding a two-game win streak over UT Martin and lead the all-time series 6-5-4. Since their first meeting in 1998, a 7-2 Little Rock victory, the series has remained competitive. The programs have also met twice in the OVC Tournament, each earning a 1-0 win, with Little Rock claiming the most recent in 2023.
Unbeaten since September, Little Rock will look to its high-powered offense to stay hot. Sophomore
Maria Schuller continues to lead the OVC in shots, shots per game, assists and goals, scoring her seventh of the season on Sunday to reclaim the conference lead.
The OVC's third-ranked assist leader, junior
Candice Kilderry, and the league's fourth-leading scorer, senior
Amaya Arias, will also look to help the Trojans add another win to the column. Standout freshman
Emily Nahon remains questionable to return after missing time with an injury.
UT Martin, meanwhile, has managed just seven goals this season but features the league's stingiest defense, allowing only 11. Thursday's matchup showcases the OVC's top-scoring team, Little Rock (22 goals), against the league's best defensive unit, setting the stage for an exciting conference showdown in Martin, Tennessee.
Head coach
Kelly Farrell said her team will need to stay disciplined and finish its chances in front of goal.
"UTM has been really strong defensively this year, so it will be super important that we continue to create chances in the final third and be clinical in our execution," Farrell said.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+, with updates provided on social media.
