CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. — Sunday's regular season finale was only seven innings long, as SEMO completed a series sweep of Little Rock with a 14-4 run-rule victory in seven innings at Capaha Field. Fortunately, the Trojans will get to extend their season at least one game longer as the No. 8 seed in next week's Ohio Valley Conference tournament.
The Trojans (19-32, 8-16) advance thanks to Western Illinois' loss at Eastern Illinois on Saturday, giving Little Rock the head-to-head advantage over the Leathernecks after both finished with identical .333 conference winning percentages. The Trojans took two of three against WIU back in April.
Little Rock will meet No. 5 seed Southern Indiana (27-28) on Wednesday in the opening game of the tournament, scheduled for 9 am Wednesday at Mountain Dew Park in Marion, Ill. The Trojans dropped two of three to USI back in late March during a conference series in Evansville, Ind.
In Saturday's regular season finale, Little Rock jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning, but SEMO roared back with a 13-run third inning. Each team scored a run in the sixth to cap off the scoring.
Reed Wilbanks had two hits and an RBI,
Cade Martin and
Sammy Harris each doubled and
Aiden McGinnis had a pinch-hit RBI.
Gage Haley took the loss, throwing two innings while surrendering five hits and five earned.
Noah Burkey closed out the final 3.2 innings while giving up just a single hit.
