Coleman Sports Complex getting facelift with new, improved field turf

LITTLE ROCK — The soccer field at the Coleman Athletic Complex will have a new look for the 2025 season with the installation of a new surface, which will not only provide Little Rock student-athletes with a new playing surface, but one that will reduce surface heat thanks to innovative technology.

"We're excited to bring this to Little Rock Athletics," Garrett Ton, Associate Director of Athletics for Facilities and Operations said. "The new surface will bring some relief to our student-athletes who endure intense heat during the Arkansas summer months, and give the facility a fresh, new look. It's a project the athletics department is proud of."

The project, which includes the installation of FieldTurf at Coleman, began in late June and is scheduled to be completed before the start of the 2025 soccer season. The new surface features a CoolPlay cooling technology which absorbs heat before releasing it back into the air, helping to reduce the surface temperature by up to 35 degrees when compared to traditional surfaces.

"The team and I are elated about the new field at Coleman and cannot wait to kick off our season in August," Little Rock soccer coach Kelly Farrell said. "I am so thankful for the proactive vision of [athletic director] Frank Cuervo and our administration in their support and execution of the new turf project. I am also very thankful for Garrett Ton's work in facilitating this project. I'm excited for our team to have a brand new, top-of-the-line playing surface and I know this investment in our program will help us continue to elevate Little Rock Soccer."

The new playing surface will also feature Little Rock Athletics branding, with the Trojan head logo at midfield and wordmark on the sidelines, something previous surfaces at Coleman have not previously had.

Little Rock Soccer will play its first contest on the new surface when the Trojans host Arkansas State on Aug. 7 for an exhibition match.
