LITTLE ROCK, AR. -
Olivia Elgin was named Missouri Valley Conference Swimmer of the Week following a standout performance against UTRGV, where she played a key role in multiple event wins and record-breaking swims.
Elgin opened the meet with a dominant victory in the 500 freestyle, touching first in 4:52.71 to set both a new school record and pool record. She continued her momentum by leading off the 200 free relay with a personal-best 23.38, helping the Trojans secure another event win. In the 200 medley relay, Elgin delivered a crucial 24.75 split in the 50 butterfly, contributing to the team's victory in the event.
Her individual success continued in the 200 freestyle, where she claimed first place in 1:47.89, again breaking the pool record. Elgin capped off the meet by leading off the 400 free relay with a 49.95 split, powering the relay to yet another pool record performance.
"Olivia continues to put together her best season as a Trojan. She's been remarkably consistent all year and is very deserving of this award. She has a history of stepping up at senior meets, so her performances this weekend were no surprise, especially coming off a very demanding week of training. She continues to show exactly what it means to be a Trojan, and we're excited to see her carry this momentum into the next three weeks leading into the Missouri Valley Conference Championships. Extremely proud of Olivia and the work she's put into this season," said Head Coach Nathan Townsend.
"Being Swimmer of the Week is a huge honor and accomplishment for me this season. There is a ton of amazing competition throughout our conference, and being awarded it this week means a lot for me and my team. We are officially three weeks out from conference, so everyone is preparing and getting ready to race fast. With half of our team being newcomers, I am really looking forward to seeing what we can do together this year at the end of February. I am super excited to show our talent and hard work, have fun, and race fast," said Olivia Elgin.
Elgin's performances highlight her consistency and leadership as the Trojans enter the final weeks of preparation before the Missouri Valley Conference Championships.
