BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Following a strong showing at the Little Rock Invitational, freshman standouts
Jeremiah Patton and
Brianna Brinkley earned Ohio Valley Conference weekly honors. Patton was named OVC Male Track Athlete and Freshman of the Week, while Brinkley secured OVC Female Freshman of the Week.
The recognition marks Patton's fifth OVC weekly award across the indoor and outdoor seasons, while Brinkley earns her second outdoor honor.
Both athletes delivered standout performances at the Coleman Sports Complex last weekend.
Patton competed in the 100 meters, 200 meters, and ran the second leg of the 4x100-meter relay. He claimed first place in both the 100 (10.56) and 200 (20.57) and helped lead the relay team to a first-place finish with a time of 41.63.
"I'm thankful for the recognition. All glory to God, and I appreciate my coaches and teammates for believing in me," said Patton.
Brinkley competed in her signature event, the 400-meter hurdles, where she posted a first-place time of 1:00.80. Her performance ranks second in school history.
Head coach
J.P. Behnke praised both freshmen for their continued success.
"Jeremiah and Brianna are two of the most dedicated and hardest-working Trojans on the team, so it's not surprising to see them performing at such a high level," Behnke said. "Both were within hundredths of a second of breaking school records last weekend, something I expect we'll see by the end of the season."
Patton, Brinkley, and the Trojans will return to action May 1–2 at the SMU Invite in Dallas, the final regular-season meet of the year.
