WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Little Rock opened the 2026 Ohio Valley Conference Men's Golf Championship exactly how it wanted -steady, complete and on top.
The Trojans fired a 5-under 279 in Sunday's first round at Ackerman Hills to take a five-shot lead over Southern Indiana heading into Monday's second round.
"Solid start to the week with all rounds counted at par or better," head coach Austin Eoff said.
Little Rock was the only team in the field to finish under par, separating from Southern Indiana (284, E) and UT Martin (+3) as the championship got underway. Leading the way was
Mark Stockdale, who carded a 3-under 68 to sit alone atop the individual leaderboard after 18 holes.
"Mark had a solid day out there with a clean scorecard," Eoff said.
Stockdale's round anchored a balanced Trojans lineup that delivered across the board.
Ed Featherstone and
Elliott Simonsen each posted 1-under 70s to sit tied for fifth, while
Rhett South added an even-par 71.
Viggo Talasmaki rounded out the scoring at 73 (+2), giving Little Rock five counted scores at +2 or better.
As strong as the start was, the Trojans see room to grow heading into Round 2.
"As we look to tomorrow, we need to perform a little better on a couple of the par 5s," Eoff said.
Weather is expected to play a factor Monday, but that could play into Little Rock's hands.
"It will be windy tomorrow which I think suits us well," Eoff said.
