TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Little Rock Women's Golf endured a long and difficult day Tuesday at the NCAA Tallahassee Regional as weather delays and challenging conditions tested every team in the field at Seminole Legacy Golf Club.
Play in the second round was suspended twice due to weather, first for two hours and 38 minutes and later for another 45-minute delay, creating an extended day for competitors in one of the nation's toughest regional fields.
The Trojans finished the round at 39-over par as a team and sit at 66-over through 36 holes entering Wednesday's final round.
Despite the difficult conditions, Little Rock continued to compete against a field loaded with nationally ranked programs. Host Florida State sits near the top of the leaderboard alongside Florida and Wake Forest, while Eastern Michigan and ULM currently occupy the projected advancing positions.
"We battled all day," Little Rock head coach
Jenna Birch said. "The delays made for a really long day mentally and physically, but I thought our group continued to compete and stayed together through some difficult stretches."
Junior standout
Eleonore Aernouts paced the Trojans during Tuesday's round, carding an 81 to move into a tie for 56th overall at 15-over for the tournament. Cloé Poizac and
Fehild Graesel also posted rounds of 81 and share a tie for 56th place.
Iara Martin finished the round with an 84 and is 21-over through two rounds, while
Nina Pitsch shot 85 Tuesday.
Birch said the experience of competing on the national stage against elite programs remains valuable for the Trojans' continued growth.
"This is one of the best fields in the country, and every shot gets magnified out here," Birch said. "Our players are gaining experience that will help us moving forward, and we'll come back tomorrow ready to fight through the final round."
The regional appearance marks the second NCAA postseason trip in the last three seasons for the Trojans, who earned their berth after capturing the Ohio Valley Conference Championship in dominant fashion earlier this spring.
