Little Rock Competes at Soggy Chile Pepper Festival

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Little Rock slogged its way through the rain and mud Saturday morning, competing at the 30th Annual Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival in Fayetteville. Participating in one of the most prestigious meets of the season, the Trojan women finished 23rd with the Little Rock men placing 30th overall.

The Trojan women finished 23rd among the 51-team field and placed 10th among Division I schools, finishing with 628 total points. Once again, the effort was led by Shanieke Watson, who finished 21st overall among a 424-runner field with a time of 18:01.8 in the 5K race. She was followed by Hunter Paul's 18:32.4 time, placing 55th overall.
 
Vianney Sanchez also recorded a top-100 finish, placing 90th with a time of 19:05.3. Hannah Manning (20:07.7) finished 188th with Akeia Joyner (25:15.9) crossing the finish line 401st overall.
 
On the men's side, Little Rock finished 30th in the 8K race and ninth among Division I programs, finishing with 842 total points. Emilio Medina led the way for the Trojans with a time of 27:01.3, placing 146th among the 441-runner field, followed closely thereafter by Anthony Puerta (27:05.6) and Ricardo Banks II (27:06.0), finishing 154th and 155th, respectively.
 
Carter Reynolds (28:23.9) and Rogelio Araiza (28:33.8) were the final point-earners for the Trojans, finishing 258th and 269th, respectively. Hunter Tucker (28:47.3) and Garrett Rokas (32:35.5) also competed for Little Rock.
 
With three races under its belt in September, Little Rock will have one more event of the regular season, getting set to host the Little Rock Invitational on Saturday, October 13 at Rebsamen Golf Course. The men's 8K race will begin at 10 a.m., followed by the women's 5K run at 10:45 a.m.
