LITTLE ROCK – Annya Grom has earned Missouri Valley Conference Swimmer of the Week honors for the second time this season, announced by the conference office on Wednesday. The sophomore shattered two more records this past weekend, upping her total to four this season. All four new records were set within the past three weeks.
To kick off her performances at the Little Rock vs. Illinois State virtual meet, Grom won the 100 breaststroke by nearly five seconds with a time of 1:03.48. The previous record, set by Grom herself as a freshman at the Missouri Valley Championships last season, was 1:03.74.
The Eilat, Israel native then claimed victory in the 100 butterfly by over two seconds with a time of 55.12. It was the first time in over a year that Grom had competed in the event. The former 100 fly mark was held by Courtney Coe, who recorded a 55.38 for the Trojans in 2017.
To top off the day, Grom also anchored the winning 200 freestyle relay with a split of 22.97 to outpace the entire field. Showing her depth, all of the sophomore's times either rank second (100 fly) or third (50 free, 100 breast, 100 free) in the conference standings so far this season.
This is the first time that a Little Rock student-athlete has earned a Swimmer of the Week award twice in the same season since Laura Ruiz Astorga in 2015-16. Grom also received the weekly honors two weeks ago, on March 17.
Grom and Little Rock swimming and diving team will conclude their season at the Missouri Valley Conference Championships in exactly two weeks, with the meet hosted by SIU running April 14-16.
