LITTLE ROCK - The Little Rock soccer team will finally wrap up the 2020-21 slate this Thursday, April 15 with a 4:00 p.m. match against SEC opponent Ole Miss. Fans are encouraged to come out to the Coleman Sports Complex and cheer on the Trojans as they finish up a long year of grit and growth. Although the Trojans already played two games this spring that counted toward their overall record due to several NCAA schools deciding to postpone play until now, this match will be an exhibition.
Coach's Preview
We're really fortunate to get to be playing," said head coach Mark Foster. "The ladies are really excited that after several weeks of hard training and games being postponed, we can finally get one in against good opposition. We expect Ole Miss will be playing in the National Tournament in a few weeks, so it's a wonderful opportunity to test ourselves against one of the best teams in the country. We're all looking forward to seeing how we measure up against them."
A Glance at the Matchup
Little Rock and Ole Miss have not met since 2015, when the Trojans fell in overtime 0-1 after flummoxing the Rebels with their defensive efforts for most of the game. This year, Ole Miss had a shaky fall season of conference play, going 4-5 and dropping their first game of the SEC Tournament. Since then, the Rebels have been undefeated, racking up six wins this spring to up their overall record to 10-5. Last Saturday, they played Sun Belt conference champions South Alabama, winning 3-0.
Little Rock has only played two games this season due to four of their matches being canceled. The Trojans kicked off the spring season against the #12 Oklahoma State Cowboys, falling 3-0 but gaining valuable experience as 16 out of the 22 Trojan soccer players are underclassmen. A third meeting with Arkansas State was Little Rock's last outing over a month ago, with the Trojans showing no signs of wear and tear as the game went on. With a month to train, it will be interesting to see the team's progression against a tough SEC team.
