Alison Stephens Sets New Discus Record at Red Wolves Open

JONESBORO, Ark. – Alison Stephens set a pair of personal records at the Red Wolves Open this weekend but Saturday's performance in the discus might have been her most memorable to date.

With a discus throw of 147-0 (44.81m) on her fourth attempt to finish fourth, Stephens broke an eight-year old school record by over three feet, topping a mark of 143-8 (43.80m) recorded by Rebekah Grissom in 2013. In just her freshman outdoor season, it likely won't be the last time she alters Little Rock's record book.

Stephens' performance, which also included the third-best hammer throw in school history (157-7, 48.05m) as she placed sixth, was part of 18 different top-five finishes for the Trojans in Jonesboro over the two-day meet.

Isaiah Parker followed Stephens' lead on the men's side, registering a fourth-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 48-6.75 (14.80m) that ranks fourth in school history. Meanwhile his discus throw of 139-1 (42.39m) ranks fifth in school history and placed him fifth in the meet.

Also placing fifth in the meet was Spencer Cardinal in the 1,500m as he posted a season-best time of 4:00.29. So did Logan Nelson, who's season-best 800m time of 1:56.21 also placed him fifth.

Aaron Soltmann recorded a runner-up finish in the 3,000m steeplechase for the second straight week, running a time of 10:14.39. In the women's 5K, the Trojans went 2-4 with Bailey Cronin running a season-best time of 19:08.45 to place second while Allison Risius finished fourth, running 22:01.38.

Little Rock went 2-3-4 in the 400m hurdles as Ka'Neisha Jackson led the trio. Jackson posted a tie of 1:02.36 to finish as the runner-up and she was followed by Shelby Dunlap's third-place time of 1:06.86 while Alexia Allen finished fourth with a time of 1:07.93.

Dunlap also stood out in the triple jump as her mark of 35-2.5 (10.73m) placed her fifth and ranks eighth in school history. Also ranking eighth in school history, Brenna Harris threw the javelin 104-10 (31.97m) to finish second in the event.

Little Rock will send a select group of athletes to the John McDonnell Invitational next weekend in Fayetteville.
