NEW ORLEANS – The Path to Pensacola has been announced as Little Rock Women's Basketball's 2021-22 Sun Belt Conference schedule was unveiled Wednesday.
The Trojans enter the new year having reached the Sun Belt Tournament semifinals in 13 of the last 14 years. The 2022 Sun Belt Basketball Tournament returns to Pensacola, Florida and will run from Wednesday, March 2 through Monday, March 7.
For Little Rock, the path won't be easy as it will both start and end on the road. The Trojans open Sun Belt play with a split weekend over New Years and then end the season on the road for the seventh time in nine years.
It all begins on Dec. 30, 2021 as league play tips off at Georgia State before the Trojans have to return home for a Jan. 1, 2022 contest against Georgia Southern in what will also be a doubleheader with the men's team. The home tip against the Eagles begins a stretch of five straight home games and seven of nine games played at home in January and wraps up with the second and final doubleheader with the men's team on Jan. 15 when the Trojan women host App State.
The only road games for Little Rock in January are when the Maroon & Silver head to Troy (Jan. 20) and South Alabama (Jan. 22).
While the Trojans will spend most of January at the Jack Stephens Center, the opposite will be true for February. Little Rock will play five of its last six games on the road for the second straight year with the home finale coming on Feb. 12 against rival Arkansas State. The Trojans return that game with a trip to Jonesboro on Feb. 19 and then end the regular season with a journey to Texas, playing at UT Arlington (Feb. 24) and at Texas State (Feb. 26) before heading to Pensacola for the Sun Belt Tournament.
The 2022 Sun Belt Tournament once again features all 12 programs competing with the top four seeds receiving a bye and all games being played at the Pensacola Bay Center. First round games of the 2022 Sun Belt Women's Basketball Tournament will be held on Wednesday, March 2 while the second round will be played on Friday, March 4. The semifinals are set for Sunday, March 6 and the championship will be on Monday, March 7. All games of the tournament, including the championship, will be broadcast on ESPN+.
The Sun Belt announced Wednesday that each team will play a 16-game conference schedule in 2021-22. Of that 16-game slate, 10 games are scheduled against opponents from within their division (home and away) along with six games against opponents outside their division. However, the divisional format is only used for scheduling purposes only and not for standings or conference tournament seedings.
Most conference games will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Thursdays at 2 p.m. on Saturdays with the exception of doubleheaders, which will begin at 1 p.m. Little Rock's non-conference schedule will be announced at a later date.
Season tickets for the 2021-22 season are currently on sale with ticket memberships as low as $150. Fans that purchase their season tickets by Aug. 1 get free popcorn at every game. Season ticket members also get 25% off SpectacuaLR tickets, a season parking pass and a 25% off coupon to the Trojan Armory Team Store at the Jack Stephens Center, in addition to other benefits.
Little Rock season ticket holders will be allowed to return to their previously reserved seat locations this year after COVID protocols limited attendance at all Little Rock events last season.
