SEARCY, Ark. and OXFORD, Miss. – Little Rock track and field combined to win 29 medals overall – including eight gold medals – in Saturday's action at the Harding Bison Open and at the Joe Walker Invitational hosted by Ole Miss.
Cameron Jackson led that effort with not just two golds (in the 100m and 200m dashes) but both of his times rank in the top 10 in school history. Jackson won the 100m with a time of 10.42, a mark that ranks tied for seventh in school history, while his 200m time of 20.89 also ranks seventh in school history as he claimed his second gold medal.
Taveion Neal claimed silver in both races, running 10.59 in the 100m and 21.33 in the 200m.
It marked a sweep for the Trojans in those two sprints as
Landri Schreier won the 100m dash on the women's side with a time of 12.00, clocking a time that ranks eighth in school history, while
Teresa Thomas' 200m time of 24.58 also won gold and also ranks eighth in school history. Schreier and Thomas were also part of the 4x100m relay team alongside
Aaliyah Lacy and
Maliyah Holland that ran 46.43 to post the third-fastest time in school history while claiming gold at Harding.
Little Rock's speed also came in longer races as
Spencer Cardinal clocked the sixth-fastest time in school history in the 5K with a gold medal time of 14:43.18 while
Andrew Payton ran 1:57.75 to win the 800m.
But the success wasn't limited to the track.
Jordan Wallace jumped 49-6.5 (15.10m) to claim gold in the triple jump while becoming just the second athlete in a Little Rock uniform ever to pass the 15.00m mark.
Ryan Curington won gold in the long jump by over 2.5 feet as he jumped 24-4.5 (7.43m) while
Desmond Frazier's shot put throw of 52-6 (16.00m) also claimed gold.
Alison Stephens earned a gold medal as her discus throw o f148-11 (45.38m) bested a deep competition.
Over at the Joe Walker Invitational hosted by Ole Miss,
Ethan Sorrels scored 6,234 points in the decathlon to earn silver and post the second-highest point total in school history.
Gabby Ayiteyfio also posted the second-highest point total in school history as she finished ninth in the heptathlon with 4,329 points.
Little Rock returns home for its annual home meet this upcoming week with the Little Rock Twilight at the Coleman Sports Complex. The hammer throw is scheduled for Thursday afternoon while the main portion of the meet is set for Friday, April 15 with field events beginning at Noon and running events broadcast live on ESPN+ starting at 4 p.m.
