FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Little Rock's action wrapped up at the NCAA West Preliminary Track and Field Championships Friday evening withÂ
Johnathan Jones and the 4x100m relay leading the way for the Trojans at John McDonnell Field in Fayetteville.
Â
Jones, a native of Little Rock, cleared 6-10.75 (2.10m) to tie for 23
rd in the high jump. That marked a big improvement in postseason action for the sophomore after finishing tied for 36
th in his freshman campaign last year, clearing 6-9 (2.06m).
Â
The men's 4x100m relay team, comprised of two alternates due to injuries, ran 40.36 to finish 20
th overall. The Trojans, slotted in a heat with national leaders Houston, Texas, Oregon and UCLA, finished sixth in a heat with eight teams in all as the relay was comprised of
Cogan DeRousselle,
Troy McKnight,
Andre Dibbles and
Ryan Curington. Arkansas, running in the same heat, did not finish.
Â
Jordan Wallace wrapped up Friday's action as he finished 45
th in the triple jump as the junior made his first NCAA postseason appearance. Wallace, who jumped 45-9 (13.94m), also earned the distinction of being the final Little Rock Trojan to compete under the umbrella of the Sun Belt Conference.
Â
Little Rock moves to more regionally-aligned Ohio Valley Conference on July 1, a transition that will lead to more regional rivalries being established, an easier chance for Trojan fans to follow the Little Rock teams on the road and will put Little Rock in a more competitive environment, poised for success.
