Jaelle Carlson Breaks School Record at MVC Championships

The sophomore claimed the 100 butterfly record on day three of the conference championships

IOWA CITY, Iowa. – Another school record along with the most Trojans qualifying for finals so far this week made the third night of the 2023 Missouri Valley Conference Championships quite possibly the most successful night yet. Jaelle Carlson led the way for Little Rock, claiming the 100 butterfly school record as well as another podium finish.

100 Butterfly
After moving up to the second-best time in Trojan history in prelims, Jaelle Carlson decided to go all in and claim the 100 butterfly school record at finals, dropping a 55.10 at night for 6th place overall.

Lauren Gray and Karina Harr represented Little Rock in the C final, the first of two finals race for both of them. Gray finished as runner-up in the heat with a time of 56.62, jumping up two places. Harr also moved up one spot at night, posting a season-best mark of 57.16 in the morning, just two one-hundredths of a second away from her lifetime best.

400 IM
All four Trojans that could make it back for finals in the 400 IM, did make it back.

Gillian Boggs moved up to 13th overall, cutting off over three seconds from her morning time in the B final thanks to a quicker back half swim.

Ashleigh Green paced the Trojans in the final 400 IM of her career, taking third in the C final with a new personal best time of 4:34.46. Freshman Duru Sibik shaved off time at night as well, finishing with time of 4:37.40 in the first final of her career, while Lexie Shelton was not far off, dropping five seconds from prelims down to 4:39.04 at finals.

200 Freestyle
Improving as the week goes on, Gabriella O'Neil popped a best time for a B final spot as well as the 5th quickest mark in school history with a 1:52.44, holding strong for 14th place overall at night.

100 Breaststroke
Representing the Trojans in the B final, Karina Harr rounded out the heat after claiming her spot on the Little Rock top times list as the 5th fastest sprint breaststroke in school history with a time of 1:04.84.

100 Backstroke
Backstroke specialist Caitlin Romprey matched her best time in prelims, a 56.21, before holding seed for 13th place overall in the B final.

Taylor Floyd and Lauren Gray both moved up in the C final. Floyd was just six hundredths off her lifetime best time, touching the wall at 57.27, the newest fifth-fastest time. Meanwhile, Gray stopped the clock at 57.52 at night, showing consistency just two hundredths of a second behind her morning swim.

3 Meter Diving
Izzy Ragsdale concluded her first conference championship meet with a 29th place finish on the taller of the two boards.

400 Medley Relay
The A relay would have set a new school record. Unfortunately, the team was disqualified.

Up Next
The Trojans are still in eighth place, ahead of both Evansville and Valparaiso.

Tomorrow is the final day of the championships, and Little Rock will have to tackle some long swims to close out the meet with a lot of grit. Those events include the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, 400 IM, 1650 freestyle, and 400 freestyle relay.
