BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Little Rock distance runner
Nicholas Newby was named the Ohio Valley Conference's Co-Track Athlete of the Week Wednesday after breaking a 15-year-old school record in the 800-meter run.
Â
Running an OVC-leading time of 1:51.03, Newby claimed his first career gold medal (indoors or outdoors), winning by 0.15 seconds. The fastest time in the conference by a half-second, Newby clocked a mark that is the fastest 800m time in the OVC in the past three years. Newby topped the old school record mark of 1:51.08 ran by Vladimir Findra in 2008.
Â
This marks the seventh Athlete of the Week honor a Trojan track and field athlete has claimed this indoor season.
Â
Little Rock returns to action this weekend at the Gorilla Classic on Friday and Saturday in Pittsburg, Kansas and at the Tyson Invitational on Saturday in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
