THIBODAUX, La. – Little Rock dropped a doubleheader at Nicholls on Saturday. The Colonels (5-2) won 4-1 and 8-6 at Didier Field. The Trojans (3-3) will try to halt a three-game losing streak at Louisiana-Monroe on Monday.
GAME 1: Nicholls 4, Little Rock 1
The Trojans took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second and gave up a pair of runs in the sixth and eighth innings, respectively.
Ty Rhoades drove in Little Rock's only run of the game on a solo homer. Rhoades was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Brody Bunting took the loss in 5.2 innings. He scattered four hits, walked two struck out six. Nicholls pitcher Alex Sparks pitched all nine innings picking up the win. He gave up four hits, walked one and struck out six while throwing 105 pitches.
GAME 2: Nicholls 8, Little Rock 6
The Colonels jumped out to a 5-0 lead after six innings, but the Trojans got three of those back in the seventh, only to give up three more at the bottom of the frame. Little Rock scored three more runs in the top of the eighth to make it 8-6 but couldn't add any runs in the ninth.
Aiden McGinnis was 3-for-4 for Little Rock.
Cooper Chaplain was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Jackson Rains smacked a pinch-hit double for an RBI.
Jack Cline took the loss on the mound going 4.2 innings giving up one hit, a walk and striking out three.
