LITTLE ROCK – The Little Rock Department of Athletics saw more than 55 percent of its eligible student-athletes honored by the Sun Belt Conference on Tuesday afternoon, placing 93 student-athletes on the Sun Belt Commissioner's List and Honor Roll as the league announced its year-end academic awards.
The Trojans also got two huge team honors with the soccer and women's golf programs earning their respective Team Academic Award from the league.
Â
Head coach
Bridgett Norwood's women's golf team picked up the honor for the second consecutive year while coach
Adrian Blewitt's soccer team claimed the Team Academic Award for the first time. The golf team accomplished the feat with a team grade point average of 3.53. Soccer, meanwhile, reached a 3.44 grade point average.Â
Â
Team awards are given to the Sun Belt program with the highest grade point average when combining all student-athletes on the team. The Trojans' two teams earning a Team Academic Award tied it for the most in the Sun Belt.
Â
As for individual awards, the Trojans had 52 student-athletes named to the Sun Belt Commissioner's List – up from 48 in 2013-14 –and another 41 earn a spot on the Honor Roll. Of the 164 student-athletes at Little Rock who competed in Sun Belt Conference sports during the 2014-15 academic year, 56.7 percent were on one of the two Sun Belt academic lists released Tuesday. The Trojan swimming and diving program competes in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Â
The Commissioner's List recognizes student-athletes with GPAs above 3.5, and the Honor Roll recognizes student-athletes with GPAs between 3.0 and 3.49.
Â
The women's golf team had five of its eight student-athletes make the Sun Belt Commissioner's List, the highest percentage of any Little Rock team. One more women's golfer was on the Honor Roll, making it six of eight total student-athletes honored by the Sun Belt.
Â
The soccer program had 11 of its student-athletes earn recognition on the Commissioner's List and another 10 make the Honor Roll, a total of 21 out of its 25 student-athletes from the 2014-15 academic year.
Â
The Trojan men's and women's cross country and track and field teams also had huge numbers on both lists, putting 13 on the Commissioner's List and 10 student-athletes on the Honor Roll for a total of 23. That 13 on the Commissioner's List is the largest number of any program on campus. The baseball team had 11 players make the Commissioner's List and another 8 on the Honor Roll, while men's golf had three on the Commissioner's List and five on the Honor Roll.
Â
The Little Rock volleyball team had seven athletes recognized in total – five on the Commissioner's List and two on the Honor Roll. Men's and women's basketball put nine student-athletes on their four lists including four on the Commissioner's List and five on the Honor Roll.
