Opening Tee
Little Rock closes out the fall portion of its 2022-23 season with its yearly host event at Diamante Country Club, hosting the Little Rock Women's Golf Classic Monday, October 17 and Tuesday, October 18.
Little Rock Women's Golf Classic
This year's event in Hot Springs Village will be the 15th installment of the Little Rock Women's Golf Classic, held every year since 2007 with the exception of the COVID-canceled event in 2020. Little Rock has won its host event three times during that span and is coming off a third-place finish in 2021, posting a 17-over 881. Four Trojans finished among the top-20 individually, led by
Sydney Scraba tying for eighth (2-over 218) and
Viktoria Krnacova tying for 10th (3-over 219).
Tournament Information
The 2022 Little Rock Women's Golf Classic will be held Monday, October 17 and Tuesday, October 18 at Diamante Country Club, a par-72, 6051-yard course in Hot Springs Village. The 54-hole event will be held over the course of two days with rounds one and two Monday and round three Tuesday, beginning with an 8 a.m. shotgun start both days. Tournament Field
Little Rock is one of 16 teams competing in its host tournament and is one of two Ohio Valley Conference schools competing, joined by Southern Indiana. The Trojans will welcome back a handful of former Sun Belt Conference foes in Georgia State, Troy, ULM and UT Arlington with ULM (No. 104), Georgia State (No. 106), Belmont (No. 114) and Houston Christian (No. 132) sitting ahead of Little Rock (No. 153) in the latest GolfStat rankings.
Trojan Lineup
Head coach
Jenna Birch will utilize her primary lineup for the tournament in Diamante, led by
Viktoria Krnacova in the number one spot.
Agatha Alesson and
Katja Mueller will be the numbers two and three, followed by
Kellie Gachaga and
Anna Dawson rounding out the scorecard. Malena Austerslaaatt will compete as an individual for the Trojans.
Last Time Out
Little Rock placed 16th among a challenging 20-team field at the GolfWeek Red Sky Classic in Wolcott, Colorado on September 28, shooting a 46-over 910, including a 5-over 293 in round one.
Anna Dawson led the way individually with a 9-over 225, posting a 1-under 71 in round one, with
Katja Mueller shooting a 12-over 228 and
Agatha Alesson adding a 13-over 229.
Busy Fall Concludes
Little Rock will play the fourth tournament of the fall season in its host event and will return to action after a busy September, playing in three different tournaments in the span of four weeks. Little Rock currently boasts a team scoring average of 296.22 as Trojan individuals have registered 11 par-or-better rounds, led by
Agatha Alesson's four with a team-best scoring average of 73.33.
Closing in on 100
Graduate students
Malena Austerslaatt and
Kellie Gachaga continue to inch closer to impressive career milestones as the duo have each played in 96 total rounds in a Little Rock uniform. Austerslaatt holds a career scoring average of 77.32 with 11 par-or-better rounds while Gachaga has notched a career average of 77.67 and a pair of par-or-better rounds with a combined 13 top-20 individual tournament finishes.
Strong Start For Alesson
Junior
Agatha Alesson has come out strong for Little Rock in the first three events of 2022-23, leading Little Rock with a 73.33 scoring average. Alesson has four rounds of par-or-better, including three rounds of 70, including tying for 13th at the USA Intercollegiate. Alesson was named the OVC Golfer of the Week on September 7 and boasts a career scoring average of 75.29 through 52 rounds and 13 rounds of par-or-better.
World Representation
Once again, Little Rock will represent a handful of nations across the globe as seven different countries are represented on this year's Trojan roster: Germany (
Katja Mueller), Ireland (
Anna Dawson), Kenya (
Kellie Gachaga), Norway (
Malena Austerslaatt), Slovakia (
Viktoria Krnacova), and Venezuela (
Agatha Alesson). Head coach
Jenna Birch hails from England, bringing the grand total to seven different countries.
