Five Things to Know
- We're Having a Record Year
Little Rock heads to Fayetteville this week with a school-record six entries in the NCAA West Prelims. That is the most the Trojan men have ever recorded in a single year and ties the most the program overall (men and women) have earned in a single year.
- Double Dip
Little Rock sophomore Cameron Jackson will be a busy man this week. Jackson will be competing in the 100m dash opening round Wednesday and in the 4x100m relay quarterfinals on Friday. If he advances in the 100m dash, he'll quickly turn around and run in the 100m quarterfinals Friday evening. That's quite the busy schedule made even more notable by the fact that he qualified, but scratched his entry, in the 200m dash.
- Man of the Year
After winning gold medals in the 100m and 200m dashes and in the 4x100m relay all within less than two hours, Little Rock's Cameron Jackson was named the Sun Belt's 2022 Men's Most Outstanding Track Performer. The award, voted upon by the league's coaches, comes after he was named the league's Top Meet Scorer with 22.5 points to his credit. Only a sophomore, Jackson becomes just the second Little Rock athlete to ever lay claim to the honor following Leo Settle in 1998.
- Guess Who's Back?
This weekend, Little Rock's Ryan Curington and Johnathan Jones are making their return to the NCAA postseason. Both athletes are just sophomores bu the duo advanced to last year's NCAA West Prelims as freshmen and have a chance to improve upon their performance in their second consecutive year of NCAA postseason competition.
- In by the Hair on his Chinny Chin Chin
Little Rock's Ryan Curington has been on an emotional roller coaster in the last week. Curington entered the declaration period (after initial scratches) tied for 48th on the performance list in the long jump for the West Prelims. A Chicago native, he stayed in Little Rock as an alternate for the 4x100m relay until the call came in on Sunday morning - Curington was in. Thanks to a scratch, Curington will compete in the long jump at the West Prelims for the second consecutive year.
