Little Rock Men’s Track and Field Achieves Program’s Highest Ranking

Trojan women receive top 200 ranking, a first since 2015

NEW ORLEANS – Little Rock's men's track and field program achieved its highest-ever ranking in school history as the Trojans came in at No. 59. The first rankings were released for the 2023 outdoor season by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

With the Trojan men coming in at No. 59 overall, Little Rock is the highest-ranked Ohio Valley Conference program and posted the school's best ranking in program history. The previous best ranking came in the final week of the 2018 season when Little Rock's Team was ranked 97th.

Meanwhile the Little Rock women entered the rankings at No. 191, marking the Trojans first appearance since Week 3 of the 2015 season.

The men's top billing came as a result of several big marks last weekend at the 40th Annual Victor Lopez Classic. Johnathan Jones currently ranks sixth in the nation in the high jump while Little Rock's men's 4x100m relay squad ranks 11th in the country. Nicholas Newby currently ranks 16th nationally in the 800m.

Both TaVieon Neal (100m) and Ryan Curington (Long Jump) rank 27th in the nation while Dion Murombe ranks 31st in the triple jump. In all, the Trojans have seven athletes ranked in the top 50 with six in the top 35.

In the women's side, the 4x100m relay ranks 37th in the country while Bria Allen's wind-aided long jump performance ranks her 50th nationally.

The national rankings are calculated by the USTFCCCA on a weekly basis using a formula that accounts for the top marks recorded this season. Student-athletes garner greater amounts of points toward a team's total with higher rankings in their respective events.

Little Rock's men received the No. 10 slot in the South Central Regional rankings, also compoiled by the USTFCCCA with the same formula as the national lists. The women are currently 30th in the region.

The Trojans are off this week but return the track on April 6-7 when they host the Little Rock Invitational at the Coleman Sports Complex.
