BRENTWOOD, Tenn. - After opening the 2024 Outdoor Season at the Richard Martin Jr. Invitational at Central Arkansas, three Little Rock Track and Field athletes earned weekly awards.
Nicholas Newby was named the Ohio Valley Conference Male Track Athlete of the Week, while
Alexia Washington and
Gabriel Torres were named Freshman of the Week.
Newby won the 800m this past weekend with a time of 1:50.91. The Burleson, Texas-native is currently ranked first in the Ohio Valley Conference and 13th in the NCAA.
Washington placed first in the long jump with a personal best distance of 18-2 (5.54m). The Rosenberg, Texas-native is currently ranked first in the OVC and fifth in Little Rock records.
Torres won the 100m with a time of 10.56. He also was a member of the 4x100m relay team that placed first in 40.25. For the 100m, Torres is currently ranked first in the OVC, while the 4x100m relay team is ranked second in the conference and seventh in school records.
